Talking with Walt Simpson III

I'm taking a little break from Empire Building, again,  to do an interview with another famous friend of mine. His name - Walter Simpson III. I went to Prep School with this brother, for a semester, then he went on to greener pastures...and girls. We were in an all boys school , after all! (insert laugh track here)

He was a basketball star at school. They called him "Mike" and he had Michael Jordan moves, to boot!He was a Freshman who STARRED in the Varsity League! That's an accomplishment, "for your ass"!

He also had the ability to study and memorize the words in whatever book he had to study from.Word for word. It only makes since, as far as memorizing lines, that he made the transition.

I caught up with "Mike" recently for an interview. This is what he had to say:

Walter "Mike" Simpson III pic
Walter "Mike" Simpson III

INQ:  Knowing you in school, you were an athlete. What got you into acting?

Walt: Basketball was and still is my first love. however, it was around my 3rd year in college that i realized my passion for acting during an impromptu play where some group on campus needed me to play Frederick Douglas. From there the interest grew & lead me to a local theatre in Baltimore called arena players...and then eventually i found myself in nyc.

INQ: How’d you get into acting? What was your first big break?

Walt: I was at an event in nyc and i met this guy who said he did casting. he eventually got me into a few movies as an extra. i begin learning about & going out on more auditions and gradually started booking more roles. one of my first widely seen projects was actually a music video. sittin home by Bad Boy Entertainment's girl group, Total.

(Note from INQ: click the link above to see the video..he comes in at 1:58. He steals the MVP trophy!)
INQ:  How’d you end up in the movie, The Cookout?
Walt: i learned about the cookout from an email blast i received from a fellow actor. i submitted my head shot / resume not really expecting a response...but got one after all. it's been a great experience man. while i definitely got a good ways to go still, i've been fortunate enough to play lead in a host of independent films, tv shows, commercials, & stage plays.
INQ: What are your acting projects? (past, present, future)

Walt: i've been cast to play the role of jacob be in a film shoot in LA that's coming out next year called 'never the bride'.

INQ:   I noticed you've worked with notable actors/actresses, anyone you loved working with? Anyone you'd like to work with?
Walt: i really enjoyed working with an actor vincent d'onofrio and kathryn erbe on law & order. they were both cool! i look forward to working with you brotha! i think we could do a cool remake of bad boys& replace will smith & martin lawrence!!

INQ: I'd MOST DEFINITELY DOWN! I'll be Martin Lawrence..YOU look like a Mike Lowrey!  What drives you?
Walt: realizing my purpose. i don't want to leave here (this life) feeling like i didn't realize ALL of what i was put here to do, change, challenge, overcome, leave behind & become. think about it...what if the hammer never ever met the nail, michael jordan never touched a basketball, steve jobs...a computer, JESUS...a cross. that would suck!

INQ:     Have you won any awards/accolades?
Walt: i've been acknowledged for something here or there...but it honestly feels rather weird to now list things i "won" after my previous answer. so instead of doing that, i will say that one of my most gratifying moments ("accolades") was just recently experienced. a close friend of my told me that he was going to now pursue his own longtime dream because he was inspired to see that i was still pursuing mine. i thinks that's just the coolest!

INQ:    Can I have your autograph?
Walt: man go ahead with that...you still owe me for that lunch money i lent you back at prep - Lol!

INQ:    As clichéd as this may be, do you have any advice for aspiring actors/actresses ?
Walt: yes! start writing. start telling your OWN stories. Not only to you need to tell them. THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT HERE WAITING TO HEAR THEM....and nobody can tell your story better than you! doing this will also set you apart from every other "walking headshot" and give you a platform to discovered for being nothing more than....YOU!

INQ:    What are other endeavors are you into?
Walt: i enjoy writing, creating & "telling" relate able stories...options trading, web marketing, & can't NOBODY see me on the michael jackson wii video game!

INQ:      Married? Family?
Walt: yes, 10yrs this oct 25th...man, i got lucky! she's an amazing women! no she's not perfect, hell neither am i...but she's without question perfect for me. we have 4 beautiful children....

INQ:     What is a typical day for you?
Walt: mr. mom! hey man, just being honest...this husband/father role IS WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
INQ:     Any last words?
Walt: DECIDE what you REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY want. "SEE" it. SEIZE IT!

Walter, it's been a pleasure!Another friend of mine who has to hustle to make a living. As you can see with him, like Mike McGlone, he's multifaceted. He uses his talents to earn a good living.

Hustling your ass off is the name of this game. That builds Empires!

See you next week, my people!

The Challenge:What will be my niche?

Brick05242013

I'm on the chapter: Minor Reflexive Questions ( Master the Art of Selling Anything). This man ( Tom Hopkins) is GREAT! I like how smooth his delivery is.

Brick05262013

I joined a survey site and Nielsen Digital Voice. Will these make money? The survey site started me off with $5, plus they paid me a lil' bit of change to read emails. This can help in building my Empire, but VERY SLOWLY. It's still money, though. Let's see..

I have a new "teacher" in my "school courses" - Neil Patel. He teaches about S.E.O ( Search Engine Optimization) strategies and techniques. A post from Pat Flynn put me on to this guy.

I'm now a member of the Candy Crush Saga community. I like this game! Reminds me of an updated Bejeweled. I love games like these.

On another note, I'm getting some sounds together. I'm getting that "Make-A -Beat" bug. I'm looking for sounds to possibly redo my theme music for Inqronicles: the Show

Brick:Memorial Day2013

Brick 08022012: Crime DON’T Pay

Happy Birthday, DJ from Grandma Huggs
Hey gang!
First off, Happy Birthday to all my Leos! This for the ones in the family…

·         Grandma – July 30th
·         My nephew, Danny, Jr. aka DJ – Aug. 1st
·         My younger stepbrother, Clovis aka Coco – Aug.2nd
·         My wife, Savadra and Brother , Danny, Sr. – Aug. 19th
·         My nephew, Elijah – Aug. 20th
·         My cousin, Qiana aka Q – Aug.21st

If you’re a regular, you know that I was in my homeland of Connecticut to see my oldest graduate from the University of Connecticut (UConn). When I got back I got a traffic ticket! Today was the day for me to “pay the piper” (read: court date).

What an adventure!

I had to take a bus ($5) to a train ($11) to a trolley ($5) to another bus ($5.50) to the tune of $26.50 total. I bought all day passes in each case for the convenience and cost effectiveness (read: cheaper) and no one even checked to see if I paid for the tickets on the train and the trolley! Not only that, but I missed work ($, does that matter?) due to this. Plus the traffic ticket cost me $600, which they want in 30 days!

Crime don’t Pay!

I’m riding on of the buses and some “mentally challenged” guy is reading the newspaper aloud. No problem there. Here are the problems, though:

1.       Anytime he messes up on a word, he repeats the whole sentence over
2.       He’s reading aloud
3.       He’s doing two voices to differentiate between who’s asking the questions and who’s answering the questions in the interview
4.       He’s reading aloud
5.       When he did get to a different article, he sounded like a robot
6.       He’s reading aloud
7.       I have to pay a $600 ticket in 30 days
8.       My phone battery is almost dead, so I had it off. I just put new music in it, to listen to, the night before

I see an Asian family and they had their little boy , about 6 years young, wearing some DAMN CROCS! Really? Why are those shoes legal? I had to laugh at that. In this case, you’re welcome to call me judgmental. I don’t care.

After getting off that bus, I had to wait for the trolley. At the station, there’s some women screaming her head off. From what I saw, she would get into the back seat of this one particular car that looked like her ride but when she would get in the car she would just SCREAM…then she would get out of the car…get herself together..get back in…scream..repeat. I paid attention to this for about 3 minutes. My trolley came by this time.

On the trolley there is an older white man sitting with a younger, by maybe 10 years, black man. No problem there. They look like they’re business colleagues. The old man is on a cell phone yelling into it. He’s complaining about the phone, to whoever is on it, aloud. Here’s the kicker. The phone is up to his ear and he has the volume loud as hell on SPEAKERPHONE! Meanwhile, the black man is instructing him on how to use the phone the whole time this is going on. He just wouldn’t listen.

Damn!

To me, I always look for a silver lining when a string of “bad” things happen. There’s always a balance if you’re willing to look for, and accept, that there is one. What was mine? I met two clowns. “Clowns?” you ask. Yep! I literally met two women dressed as clowns waiting for the train back.
Fargo and Grandma Huggs

It’s National Clown Week (August 1st - 7th) and these women were on their way to perform for the local elderly. I took pictures and sat and talked with them on the train. I’m sure it was a sight to see. Imagine seeing a black man with a “hoody” sweatshirt having a serious conversation with a couple of clowns. I know if it WASN’T me I would be looking at the situation.

You can learn a lot from a clown. True story.

·         I learned that there are clown courses at a local college. The course teaches Make Up, Theory, History and Juggling to name a few.
·         Their names were Grandma Huggs and Fargo
·         Fargo is going to be 89 years young and JUST got her first ticket of ANY kind last week!
·         Fargo has more clown aliases
·         Grandma Huggs sits on a Board of Directors for a local foundation dealing with Lupus
·         Volunteering is VERY rewarding

Here are a few shots from the first train:

Brick07222012: I’m Pissed Off (or On?)

Me  Pre-Pissed
I’d like to share a few things today because you follow me and …why not?

First, I have an older stepsister who is in a critical condition and may be dying. I love you, Kym. I’m in California and she’s in North Carolina. I’m pissed off because I’m nowhere near her and can’t afford to be. I remember looking up to her just on the fact of her being my older sister - nothing else. When she was around, I’d follow her around and tell her jokes. She loved my impressions and my funny stories. I actually had a dream today where she came up to me and said, “Hey, Kev!” and laughed. We were in a house and we were with our brothers. She laid down on the bed and instantly went to sleep. My younger brother, Coco, came up to me and said, “She’s at the hospital. She just wanted to talk to you.”
When I looked back at the bed she was gone. After that happened, I went to a hospital bathroom.

This leads me to my next topic.

I pissed on myself. In real time!

Yep! While I dreamt of using the bathroom, I was “using the bathroom” on my side of the bed. Now, I will say that my “ol’ lady” felt I shouldn’t put this out in the world, but…I write this blog. I’m not ashamed or embarrassed. Some of you have peed on yourselves at parties, other people’s couches, beds, etc. I’ve never done that. This is a journal. Don’t get me wrong there are things in my life that are sacred that I won’t share, but this happened to me. I should be the one who would be embarrassed. I’m not.

The reason for me doing this blog is to make a living off of doing it. I need to gain and retain readers in order to do this.

Look at Eminem, Jay Z, all actors and actresses, and other notable figures in the world that are in the public eye. You want to know what they are doing when they aren’t doing what we know them to do. Right?
A Sangria. MmmHmmm!
The night before, I was at a Luau at a local winery. They had Sangrias. If you know what that is - good. If you don’t – look it up. Anyway, I was drinking them things like they were JUST invented and they were gonna be extinct the next day! I came home and made my own and drank some more!! My tank was full, I guess. I fell asleep on the couch watching The Other Guys. I don't recall using the bed before I went to bed!
No excuse, but...

I also rented the DVD - Mac + Devin Go to High School : The Movie (Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa). This movie reminded me of How High ( Method Man and Redman). It'a stoner movie. I was ok. it's a feel good movie. The movie started with instructions from a joint. wanna see the movie? Follow the instructions.

 My daughter loved it

Brick07132012: Whipped Menn

Photo from " Uncle Donny"

Hey!
How is ya? I’m DAMN good. I’m feeling real groovy off this UV Pink Lemonade Vodka mixed with my life. Not a bad mix.
If you read my last post, you can see I’m getting a little more personal with my writing. This is what you wanna read, right? This is why you come to this particular blog out of ALL the blogs that exist out there that you can be reading at this very moment (which I thank you for). I’m glad you came (as the group The Wanted says!).
There has been a little bit of self-discovery going on and I DON’T mind sharing it with you. After all, I started blogging to actually share my experiences on the West Coast with my East Coast family/friends and it grew! All I did was talk about ME. I MUST BE INTERESTING TO SOMEBODY/SOMEBODIES .
Anyway, this blog has to do with someone I know, but at the “same damn time” I know quite a few guys like this. The video says it all. Watch it. I cover quite a lot.
·         My experience being on the show Brand X
·          Being at the American Comedy Company. Here's a link to when my wife went with my Dad.
·         Going to the Comedy Palace. Here's a link to my first time going.
·         Hiking Torrey Pines, again
·         Seeing French Montana at 4th and B and
·         Me and the Insanity Workout
On another note, I’m starting to really dig monetizing this blog (as well as the other blogs I have). My goal ist to make a stone cold living off of blogging. I’m starting to network with the right people. I’m learning to filter out junk. I’m getting to be a little more efficient with it. I plan on making a good sum of money off it by December of this year. Why not? It can happen! It will happen. I wil WILL IT to happen. I will MAKE it happen. I MUST make it happen. I’m ready to live life the way I’m supposed to live it.
My mind is “clear” and I see life for what it should be for me… I stay up late and/ or get up early throughout the week to make this a reality! That is what “putting your nose to the grindstone” is all about!...y’all don’t hear me though…so…
Yoohoo!

Brick07062012: Being on Brand X with Russell Brand

So, the wife got tickets to a taping of the show Brand X. It aired July 5th.
Damn, that was fun.
I’ve seen Russell Brand on an award show, the movie GetHim to the Greek (Jonah Hill, Puffy aka Diddy, to name a few) and the remake of Arthur. He’s a really funny guy. I LOVE comedy. I had a childhood (Air Force brat) in England, so I was able to “get” his style of humor as well as his accent. My Mom watched BBC and british TV shows while I grew. In fact, she still tunes into BBC shows and has a collection of Benny Hill VHS tapes….yep!
Anyway, while at the show he spoke on Sex Education in schools. For some reason, he chose to direct a question at me. I gave him a REAL answer - he loved it. Apparently, so did the editors of the show. I became a mini-celebrity on the set.

Here’s the clip:

Here you can see me and beloved wife. The woman I call Stoo with me :

There was even a little review clip from another show.I'm in THIS, too:

Overall, the experience was F*cking GREAT!! I might go back on the show to see if he remembers me...I know I'm milking my "15 minutes of fame"...wouldn't you? I mean..it was a BIG DEAL

Yoohooo
